Hello all! How are you all doing? Hope your heart is happy and your coffee mug is as full as you wish it to be.
So here in the middle of the night, I am writing this post which is very close to my heart. Not purely about fashion but something that I would like to share.
One fine day, I got a DM on Instagram from a girl who feels that fashion is not for her because of her weight and style preferences. She is not one of those girly girls who’d doll up for a party, frilly lace doesn’t do any good to her, she dresses for comfort and makeover sends a shiver down her back yet she wants to look the best of her”. All these things took me back to time and today the girl behind those pretty pictures of “Binge on Basics” wasn’t even a bit like this, 3 years back. She loved fashion, wanted to pursue her career in this industry but was too afraid and muddled because of the way she looked. But you know, she believed in herself truly and made a step forward towards her dream. Little did she know, that one day she will gain this much of confidence in herself that she would start writing for people and fashion. Well, that girl is yo girl guys. Yes, Me!
Gradually I did lose weight but I starved myself, I did a lot of things that my body was not simply happy with just to look a certain way but sadly all these things couldn’t bring happiness into my life.
It came when my journey of self-love started. We hear and read so much about self-love yet we do skip it as if it is extraneous. I am not going to tell you a Bollywood story here, not something great happened, got no call from Victoria’s Secret but when I finally made peace with how I look, I started loving myself and that my friends, changed my perspective towards my life, moulded my thinking and made me such a positive and confident person that today I am sharing this with you all. With this post, I truly want to tell everyone that it’s ABOSULETY OKAY to not to fit into our societal norms. It’s badass to have broad shoulders and thick thighs, it’s alright if you have got a broad forehead or you’re skinny, it’s fabulous if you’re 6ft tall and still wear heels, note that everything is okay as long as you love yourself. Honestly, I don’t think that people will stop labeling you but for how long are you going to keep these things bring you low in life? I know how much I want to scream these words to the 17 years old me. So, let’s do a deal? You and I are not going to give a damn about what people say about us, you and I are going to find every bit of courage to love ourselves. Okay? Okay.
So now coming back to the post, my DM star wanted me to give her an outfit idea where she can use her baggy clothes, feels comfortable and still looks stylish.
For this look, I wore mom jeans which are by far one of the best trends for me. It’s baggy, breezy and high waisted. If skinny jeans scare the shit outta you then mom jeans is a must-have in your wardrobe. This kind of jeans works great with well-fitted top and t-shirts. And there’s a lot of scope for experimentation. I paired it with a grey crop top and an oversized jacket. The color of my jeans and jacket are almost same and this combination is kinda contemporary and channels a fashion forward vibe. You can ignore the crop top part and instead go for a fitted tee(Music band tees FTW) or top which you can tuck in (if you ain’t comfortable in a cropped one). And at last, I ended the look with my blue Vans. All blue with a little hint of grey. Also, I like pretty things print on my top because for me everything and everyone is pretty. Once you start ignoring the flaws may it be in people, things or yourself, everything just turns out to be pretty.
Here’s a big shout out to the girl who reached out to me, who unfolded her insecurities in front of me and who has great curves and great love for baggy clothes, I want to tell you that you are not alone here, there are thousands of you and me and we all are beautiful in our own ways. I hope I was able to help you with this outfit idea. Just one last thing, wear whatever you like and want, irrespective of what the society has got to say and for ideas you can always count on me.
So, if anyone out there wants any kind of fashion tips and soul talk, you can always reach out to me.
