Let’s admit it, living in the capital of the country while being a Bengali, I literally have to hunt for occasions to deck up all pretty in ethnic wear. Honestly, every cousin is either getting married in Kolkata or in Kolkata. Like Literally! You see my struggle?
While I have to give upon the family functions, the food & the mood, the festivities which go on in Kolkata, I won’t deny that Delhi has given me a lot. This city shaped me, my thoughts and my opinions. It is kind of living the best of both worlds. And while I am dwelling in it, I thought why not to incorporate the same in my outfits? What time would it be better than now to master the trend of Indo-Western fusion wear because Tadaaaaaa! the festive season is right here starting from Raksha Bandhan.
I have created 2 indo-western looks for this post and you’re going to see a lot of it in my coming blogs, I hope so (ignoring the pro procrastinator that I am).
If you are sailing in the same boat as I am, then this look is for you. Which boat you ask? Well, the boat where I want to sit in my denims all day long comfortably, whether be it in my ripped jeans or denim shirt or maybe both. Denim is that best friend to whom I can go whenever I just want to be myself. No style defines me better and that’s when I decided to put this look. I have worn this denim shirt with almost everything except kurtas but say no more guys!
For this look I have teamed up my black printed kurta with ripped jeans and denim shirt. This look was taken up a notch with my black block heels. For accessories, I have tried to keep it as minimal as I can by pairing it up with golden earrings and some bangles. I wanted the look to be a little bold and the Lakme 9 to 5 brownie point matte lipstick did justice to it. For me, stepping into modernity never felt this satisfying.
With this look, I want to break the misconception that kurta’s have to be styled ethnically. A big no no. I mean styling it as a dress and having two outfits in one is totally a win-win situation, girls. I will talk about my love affair with the colour blue some other day because today I feel like talking about the colour white. It soothes my mind and makes me feel like everything is balanced in life. To the days when everything seems to be messy and chaotic, I prefer white to balance out just like I did with this look. I wore this blue printed kurta as a dress and layered it with a white cape, loaded it with an embellished belt and again I felt everything is stable, the look, the life, EVERYTHING.
For accessories I chose rings, a stone bracelet and hoop earrings. I did a little DIY there, can you see it? Can you see it? Off course you can. I added flowers to my hoop earrings because flowers are a big trend this time around. From Instagram to Pinterest, I am spotting flowers everywhere so, I want you to spot here a bit too. Finished off the look with tie-up sandals and I love how it is sublimely complimenting my overall outfit.
