Rome features heavily on travel bucket lists. If you are thinking about a romantic trip, or a short city break, Rome is probably somewhere that you’ve considered. With gorgeous scenery, fabulous food and culture at every turn, Rome is somewhere that many of us hope to visit at some point in our lives. It’s often talked about as one of the most romantic and beautiful cities in the world, and is certainly somewhere that’s worthy of its place on your bucket list.
But, unfortunately, all this means that it’s on everyone else bucket list too. Whenever you visit, and wherever you go, it’s going to be crowded. With people everywhere and a million things that you want to see and do, it’s a good idea to put in a little planning. While it can seem more romantic to be spontaneous and see where the mood takes you when visiting Rome this kind of attitude can mean that you miss things that you want to do, and that you waste time. Planning is essential if you really want to be able to make the most of your trip. Here are some tips to help you plan your trip to Rome.
You’d need to stay in Rome for weeks if not longer, to see everything of interest. You could easily fill your days in museums, churches and galleries and your evenings eating in the best restaurants and sipping cocktails in classy bars. But, most of us only have time for a few days.
There’s no way that you are going to be able to see everything, and trying to fit too much in can mean that you don’t stay anywhere long enough to appreciate it and that you come home absolutely exhausted. Before you go, look at guides to Rome online and try to pick out a few places that you absolutely need to go. These are your priority; see anything else as a bonus.
Most of the prominent tourist attractions in Rome will have queues of people lining up outside all day, every day. But, some offer a fast track or skip the queue tickets if you book online. Do your research and book what you can before you travel. You might also want to look at tours from WhereToRome, to help you to see more in your time.
Find the Right Accommodation
Where you stay can make a massive difference to how you spend your time. If everything that you want to is in a specific area, find a hotel nearby. If not, try to find somewhere in the middle, or close to public transport lines so that you can fit more into your days.
Plan Some Early Nights
It can be tempting to stay up late to enjoy the nightlife that Rome has to offer. But, this might mean that you sleep late and miss your chance to see the attractions when they are quieter early in the morning. Get some early nights, get out early and get more out of your days.
Number one on your packing list should be comfortable shoes, but light layers and comfortable clothing are also a must. Pack for days on your feet. Only pack those items that are lightweight and easy to carry. To be honest, overpacking can lead to more tiredness and chaos on the go.
