Ki Kore Bolbo Tomay: An alluring story of Radhika caught between love and ethics

08 July, 2020

This month has been the toughest month of 2020 for all of us and especially for the movie industry. Losing an incredibly talented actor and more importantly, an intellectual human being has shaken the entire nation. Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely death has gripped us into a never-ending guilt trip and has made us question our choices when it comes to watching big banner movies. We might never know the things that led him to take this drastic step but we will still find it in our hearts that choosing a Bollywood biggie over a talented artist might have pushed him to the very edge. While this is deeply saddening, this incident has finally opened our eyes and once again established the saying “All that glitters is not gold”. It is high time to put the talented actors of not only Bollywood but from all segments into the spotlight. Being a Bong girl, my inclination is always towards regional Bengali movies and serials. And you cannot blame me for that. I guess one can never separate a Bengali from roshogullas, fish, and their cultural values. We, as a community has always valued art and culture. Every one of my cousins is either into classical music, classical dance, or an artist just like me. Without further ado, let's raise the curtains of Ki Kore Bolbo Tomay (streaming on ZEE5) - an alluring story of a young girl named Radhika (played by Swastika Dutta) who is caught between love and ethics on her journey to become a renowned fashion designer. Now let us dive into this touching tale, which I am really sure would be appreciated by fashionistas like you.

This series came to my notice mostly because it was gaining popularity amongst my cousins because the protagonist is an aspiring fashion designer, which is very slightly related to what I do for a living. My cousins literally picture me whenever they hear the word “FASHION”. You know how this works. But nonetheless, I am stoked to find a series that is not only supportive of these super skilled and competent actors but brings me closer to my roots and my profession. In a way, I could relate so deeply with Radhika even before watching the show. Radhika is a highly ambitious girl, fueled with a creative spirit and a vision to make it big someday. A chirpy girl who is full of life, hopes, and dreams. Everything remains happy, gleeful, and pleasing until her fiance, Koushik (played by Rahul Dev Bose) goes missing one day before the wedding. And while most of you would feel morose, I thoroughly enjoyed this plot twist. You can say it's a predictable one, but I am more obsessed over the fact that it's a way out for Radhika to live the life of her dreams. From the beginning, I had this gut feeling that the marriage would sabotage her career and when it did not happen, I immediately knew that better things were ahead of her. If you are still upset about it just know that a love story is incomplete without a little bit of tragedy. Would you cheer up, if I tell you that post this point Radhika becomes more determined to take new strides in her career and joins a clothing line? And guess what? She crosses path with the male lead protagonist, Karna (played by Krushal Ahuja) who also happens to be the boss. This is where the real love story flutters. Love is lost and found. The story, thereafter, revolves around these two people who are poles apart yet they tend to fall in love with each other.

I am in awe of the character Radhika, who is persistent and not ready to give up on the moral obligations. I was really happy to see her putting herself and her career first unlike other shows where a girl is portrayed as the epitome of sacrifice. I admire Radhika and the way she falls in love with Karna without putting her career at risk and without changing a tiny bit about herself. A girl so fearless, determined, empowered, career-oriented, and embraces her true self is a girl that we all should look up to. In a way, this love story for me is a constant reminder to love myself first and then share it with someone else. The show is more gripping because of the exceptional acting skills of the protagonists. The mannerism, the body language, and the powerful storytelling brought these characters into life which we as an audience can relate to at a deeper level. One can expect no less when this show is produced by Shashi Sumeet Productions, who offered the Indian audience with their out of the box and women empowering stories like Diya Aur Baati Hum, Punar Vivaah and many more. If you are looking for more such gripping thrillers, love stories, stories with strong female protagonists, then subscribe to ZEE5 today without giving a second thought.
