Atkan Chatkan: A musical journey of friendships, hope and dreams

02 September, 2020

With all that is going in the world right now, there is only one thing that everybody is clinging too and that is the hope to see a better tomorrow. Call me naive, but I believe that it is human nature to dream of a brighter future, a world where all our desires are fulfilled. As a kid, I have always aspired to become a world-renowned blogger and I am still passionately working towards achieving that goal. Even when, the world came to standstill in the initial months of this year, I was still working day and night to take myself one step towards achieving my dream. This is how passionate, ambitious, and serious I am about my career and having a name for myself. And that is why, when the trailer for Atkan Chatkan got released, I was able to connect with it instantly.

Streaming platform ZEE5 has recently announced that Atkan Chatkan will be released on September 5, 2020, and AR Rahman himself is presenting this Shiv Hare Directorial. The music has been composed by the incredible percussionist Sivamani. What is more interesting is that all the child actors in this movie are talented child musicians. The protagonist is Lydian Nadhaswaram, the world’s best child pianist and protege of AR Rahman himself. This movie is about a 12-year old boy Guddu, who belongs to an economically weaker section of society yet has dreams bigger than most of us. He is not privileged and forced to live in a mundane environment where he has to keep delivering tea to survive. He is not allowed to have dreams, more precisely he cannot afford to dream of a better and brighter future for himself. Yet, in his heart, he knows that he has the potential to become a famous musician one day and he hopes to fulfill his burning desire. With nothing in his favor and no instruments to play whatsoever, he finds music and rhythm in the things around him and creates music. His willingness to be known, to feel worthy, makes him go the extra mile by forming a band with other 3 street kids (Madhav, Chuttan, and Meethi). With his band, he takes part in the biggest music competition in the city. If he wins the competition, he and his band members can get into a music school and this can be their chance of a better tomorrow. This rhythmic journey of friendships, extraordinary talent, hope, and dreams is what caught my attention and interest. I am now so curious to know what Guddu and his friends have in store for them and whether or not they will be able to win the competition and make a name for themselves.

While my story is nowhere close to their struggle but I had a really hard time convincing my parents to let me chose art over science. In a family of engineers and doctors, I have been often looked down as a content creator. The way Guddu has to fight with this father reminds me of the days when I had to convince my parents to allow me to chase my dreams rather than choosing the usual career path carved by my ancestors. This is why I am hellbent to watch Guddu and his band excel in the music competition. Will they be able to win the competition? Only time will tell. I am going to definitely watch #AtkanChatkanOnZEE5. If this story intrigues you, then don’t forget to subscribe to ZEE5.

Until the next story,
